SUPers News

Yesterday’s BallyCara event was most successful.  Many of the residents wanted to thank us for our playing and singing, making the point that they really enjoyed it.

Carmine (Entertainment Director) sent me a message:

Hi Teejay

Great Performance yesterday, everyone enjoyed it.

I will review the entertainment schedule and let you know about Monday nights.)

A most successful SUPers event. I realise that Wednesday is unsuitable for many, but, maybe, keep an eye on the Calendar page

Some Gig Possibilities

  • At BallyCara I had a lady ask for our card, as she has a friend at another similar facility who wants to do what BallyCara does.
  • I had a lady request that next time we visit (09 September) that we play Cotton Fields.
  • I had a lady ask if we might be interested in a Cancer Council Morning Tea (18 June) 66 Prince Edward Parade Redcliffe.
  • Carmine (the BallyCara MC) was chatting after the event (he can chat). He mentioned that they have big crowds in the hall each Monday evening (they have raffles etc). I suggested that we might be considered for one of these evenings and he seemed warm to the idea.  See note above
  • Deidre was approached by someone from the Sandgate Uniting Church.  They have an event once a month but a musical morning once a year. This year’s musical morning is from 10 am to midday on Saturday, 15th August.

Singing Solo

Thanks to those who have expressed concerns about my upcoming op. I should plan on being away for a period of time. To this end I have made a call on solo singing.

Thank you if you have expressed an interest in singing a solo. I really appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute.

Mother’s Day Medley is set, and will not change. I will be playing and singing until 12 June. From now until I return, I’m keeping the program fairly simple and focusing mainly on ensemble singing rather than individual solos. My aim is to maintain a comfortable and cohesive group sound while I’m away.

Your contributions to the SUPers is genuinely valued, and I’m very pleased to have you as part of the group. To this end I have asked Sharon to come up with a list of 30 songs that she feels confident that SUPers can perform without me being present.  I feel it unlikely I will be fine for the Redcliffe Show.  I also know that, whilst you need me for some songs, there are many you can perform well without me.

I warmly encourage those beginning their musical journey to avail themselves of every opportunity SUPers offers to play.  It doesn’t matter how well you can or cannot play. By being part, relaxing and enjoying the event, you are in fact learning.  It is the way to learn.  There are still some vacancies for Clontarf on Monday. Contact Deidre deidre.windham@gmail.com

Sandgate Social

This event was most successful last time.  I do hope a good number of us can attend again on 20 May.  I have put up a list of songs (and already been told they are too hard).  I am listening.  I want us to play songs that people walking past will enjoy.  It would be great if we could once again have a good turn out for this.

Microphone Protocols

For Mother’s Day Medley, if we are sharing a mic, I remind everyone that we are not out of COVID  situations.  I ask, if you are sharing a mic, you have your own mic cover please.
